Summary

Xpedite Group of Companies (Xpedite) were contracted to assist BAE with various supportability analysis (SA) aspects during the design and build phase of the Type 26 Frigate, with a primary focus on Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) activities. Xpedite developed a large selection of the Type 26 maintenance plans, with most systems undergoing full comprehensive RCM analysis, while some simpler systems were addressed using a streamlined maintenance approach.

Project Approach

Our RCM Project Team conducted the full analyses in accordance with Def Stan 00-45 and BR1313A, leveraging technical drawings and manuals to ensure thoroughness and regulatory compliance. Throughout the process, our team applied the principles of RCM, proactively identifying potential failure modes and implementing preventative maintenance tasks to mitigate risk.

Upon completion, the RCM analysis was presented at a Maintenance Review and Approval Board (MRAB), which included representatives from BAE, MoD personnel, and other stakeholders, including the Platform Authority. During this meeting, the output was reviewed and approved for in-service use.

Project Outcome

The process demonstrates that employing the right Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) and fostering close working relationships results in safe and defensible maintenance for RN Vessels. Optimised maintenance schedules and procedures have streamlined operations, leading to a reduction in maintenance burdens. The RCM output will reduce through-life costs and ensure improved platform availability; by implementing effective maintenance management strategies we are ensuring the equipment is properly maintained leading to increased reliability and extended asset lifespan.
